Problem to solve:

There is a side of cycling often overlooked in publications. Many bike focused magazines have an emphasis on heroism, sport, or extraordinary endeavors that create a limited narrative of what it means to be a cyclist. Furthermore, these stories lack the diverse representation that exists in cycling communities.

Audience:

Freewheeling Magazine is for readers who see cycling as a way of life, not a competition. They’re everyday riders—commuters, families, and community-minded cyclists—drawn to stories that reflect the emotional, social, and creative sides of biking. Our audience values diverse perspectives, local impact, and the quieter, more meaningful ways cycling shapes how we live.

Color:

Freewheeling Magazine is printed in a duotone of kelly green and black, chosen to align with risograph inks. This limited palette reflects our values of simplicity, accessibility, and sustainability—keeping costs low for our community-minded audience and allowing us to partner with small local print shops.

Final Thoughts:

I created a 52-page magazine that reflects the values and interests of a community often overlooked in mainstream cycling media. Centered on stories from artists and everyday riders, the magazine highlights cycling as a creative, personal, and accessible lifestyle. Designed in a compact digest size (8.5” x 5.5”) and printed in two colors on standard paper stocks, it is affordable to produce and easy to carry. Both informative and inspirational, it’s made to be read, shared, and displayed—equally at home in a bike bag or on a coffee table.
