Audience:

Table Tennis Seattle was created for a budget-conscious audience looking to connect with their city through accessible, community-driven recreation. Designed as a two-color Risograph-printed booklet, it reflects a DIY spirit and local pride, offering a practical and visually engaging resource for anyone curious about where and how to play. Whether new to the game or rediscovering a public pastime, readers value low-cost fun, shared spaces, and the joy of unstructured play.

Process:

Research:

I spent many hours researching publicly accessible table tennis tables in Seattle, combing through Google Maps, Reddit threads, Yelp, and the Seattle Parks & Recreation website. To verify locations, I followed leads by calling businesses and community centers, then visited every confirmed site to document and photograph each table in person.

Color:

Freewheeling Magazine is printed in a duotone of bright red and black, chosen to align with risograph inks. This limited palette reflects our values of simplicity, accessibility, and sustainability—keeping costs low for our community-minded audience and allowing us to partner with small local print shops.

Marketing Pop-Up Concept:

Pop-Up Display, In Transit

Our mobile display serves as a billboard in motion, visible to cars and buses on one side, and to pedestrians and cyclists on the other. The trike pulls a folded table tennis table that doubles as a trailer and display surface. A flag on the back reads, “Your guide for where to play,” calling attention to the guidebook.

Pop-Up Display, On Location

While on location, the mobile display becomes an interactive pop-up where people can play a game, pick up a guidebook, and get familiar with table tennis. The trike carries a full table setup along with paddles, balls, and guidebooks, all ready to go for anyone curious to try.

Animated Marketing Video:

I created this one-minute animated video to raise awareness about public table tennis opportunities in Seattle and to connect more people with the guidebook. The video serves as a playful introduction, helping spread the word through animation and storytelling.

Final Thoughts:

I created this Risograph-printed guidebook to make table tennis in Seattle more visible, approachable, and fun. Designed for a budget-conscious audience, it features two-color printing on standard paper stocks and is compact enough carry along. It’s a celebration of public space, playful design, and community connection. It is meant to be shared, referenced, and returned to again and again.
