Social Media Shorts

Overview:

Over the course of eight weeks, I created and publicly posted a short video each week to social media, highlighting lesser-known bike routes and landmarks around Seattle. The series aimed to spotlight overlooked parts of the city while giving me an opportunity to further develop my video production skills.

Problem to solve:

Highlight lesser-known Seattle landmarks and bike routes to help people discover and engage with the city beyond common tourist destinations.

Audience:

The audience for this video series includes curious locals, cyclists of all experience levels, and visitors interested in seeing a different side of Seattle. Some are looking for hidden gems like quiet bike paths or unexpected landmarks. Others may be tourists seeking a more grounded, offbeat experience. Whether they are drawn in by cycling or a love of discovery, viewers are united by an openness to seeing the familiar in a new way and a desire to connect more deeply with place.

Accessibility:

To support accessibility and improve viewer engagement, each video includes on-screen subtitles. This choice helps make the content more inclusive while also reaching viewers who often watch short-form video without sound.

Wedgwood Rock - Seattle Bike Ride:

In this video, I highlight Wedgwood Rock, a notable geological landmark located in North Seattle.

Fratelli’s Cows - Seattle History:

In this video, I highlight a mural in my neighborhood and explore how it connects to local history. The mural stands where an old ice cream factory once operated, a building that featured many similar murals.

Queen Anne’s Hidden Oasis, UpGarden Seattle:

In this video, I highlight a community garden tucked away on top of a parking garage in Queen Anne. It provides a welcoming space to garden and gather in this dense urban neighborhood.

Valley of the Gnomes - Seattle Bike Ride:

In this video, I highlight a whimsical hidden spot tucked away in the Madrona neighborhood.

Seattle Winter Cycling - Coffee Outside:

In this video, I highlight the joys and challenges of cycling through a Seattle winter and share what Coffee Outside is all about, a casual community-based meetup.

Let’s Get Industrial - South Seattle Cycling

In this video, I explore bike routes in South Seattle and share some of my favorite places to ride. While the area isn’t a hot spot for cyclists due to limited infrastructure, I show why it’s worth the visit with your bike.

Final Thoughts:

I created this video series to offer a more personal and approachable way to explore Seattle, one bike ride or hidden landmark at a time. Designed for a wide audience, from longtime locals to first-time visitors, it celebrates the quieter corners of the city and encourages a deeper connection to place. Like many of my projects, it reflects my interest in community-centered design and accessibility.
